SKP version conversion keeps the model in the SketchUp ecosystem. The key question is which file format your destination can read.
SketchUp introduced a versionless SKP format in 2021. Check your installed release and its updates before assuming you need to downconvert.
Older installations use version-specific formats. A downconversion method needs to support the exact legacy version you want to open.
Based on SketchUp’s file format guidance . Current SketchUp versions no longer save to older unsupported formats.
Three steps to a SKP file for your destination SketchUp version.
Choose a SKP file up to 100 MiB and check its file-header version. Keep an untouched backup of your original model.
Select a supported SketchUp target and start conversion. The full file is uploaded again for processing.
Review the resulting model in the destination application. Check its dimensions, geometry, materials, components, and scenes.
From studio handoffs to a downloaded component, a little compatibility planning reduces the back-and-forth.
Agree on the receiving SketchUp version before sending a project. Keep the original model alongside any converted copy.
Check the version requirements of downloaded models before adding them to an existing studio workflow.
Identify whether a legacy installation is the source of an opening error, then choose an appropriate next step.
Conversion can change the way model features behave. Review a copy in the actual destination version before using it for production.

A SketchUp version converter rewrites an SKP model for a different SketchUp file format. It is different from exporting a model to STL or OBJ: the intended output remains an SKP file for use in SketchUp.

Yes. Use a modern browser on Mac or Windows to select a SKP file, check its header and request conversion. Processing takes place on our server; the header check does not validate the complete model.
Selecting a file keeps it local until you click check or convert. Each action uploads the full file to our processor. Conversion uses temporary files that are cleaned up after processing; there is no saved model history. See the privacy policy for processing and transport details.
Version checking is free without signing in. Each signed-in account gets one free successful conversion; further conversions use available daily check-in rewards or active Premium. Daily check-in grants 1 conversion per Beijing calendar day, capped at 3 unused rewards; each reward expires after 7 days. Premium costs $7/month or $48/year through Waffo checkout.
